CPT Armor Class A by MyMiniatureEquine CPT Armor Class A by MyMiniatureEquine
I didn't like Shining Armor's red uniform, so I gave him an Army Service Uniform. Here's a version without the flag: [link]

This is the best digital drawing/painting I've ever made, but the difference in quality between this and my previous work is pretty significant. It's kind of funny, heh.

I can also proudly say: Made in GIMP 2.8.

UPDATE: For those wondering what some of the fictional awards, badges, and insignias are, I made a list of the heraldic devices on his jacket.

    Shoulder
  • Guardian Blue Cord

  • Lapels
  • E.Q. (Equestria) Insignia
  • Royal Guard branch insignia

  • Right Chest Pocket (from left to right, top to bottom)
  • Royal Guard Corps regimental distinctive insignia
  • Unit awards
    • Army Royal Unit Citation
    • Army Valorous Unit Award
  • 1st Shield Defense Division combat service identification badge

  • Left Chest Pocket (from left to right, top to bottom)
  • Combat Guardian Badge
  • Ribbons
    • Silver Star ribbon, Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal
    • Equestrian Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Crystal Empire Campaign Medal
    • Global War on Disharmony Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon
  • Skill badges
    • Guardian Badge
    • Pathfinder Badge
  • Royal Sisters Service Badge

Now, if you see somepony somewhere wondering about the decorations on this uniform, please redirect them to this description.

I heard this guy is a bit of a high horse...

Sorry. Anyway, I can't begin to express how beautiful this is, and it's done in GIMP! And clever renaming of some of the ribbons by the way lol

He also showed up with no pants on. We need a non-commissioned officer to square him away.

As a soldier in the Old Guard (I know uniforms perty dern well), this is put together quite well and is crafted very skillfully. i'm surprised I haven't run across an Equestria/USA crossover like this before. very well done

Wow. Thank you very much!
This is my proudest work. I knew lots of military Bronies would see this, so research and attention to detail was paramount.

And indeed you've done a good job. One thing I've been scouring the interwebs for but have been unable to find is a good MLP/TOG crossover. If you are unfamiliar with TOG it's 3rd US Regiment (Tomb of the Unknowns, Caisson, etc). if you ever feel like putting together something alone that lines....well it'd probably make caisson 20% cooler

This look pretty damn amazing, especially because you made it with the new version of GIMP. I personally can't work with it at all, and much prefer the older 2.6 version. Downgrading was a bit of a hassle, but I found there were quite a few likeminded individuals. I can't really remember what made it so uncomfortable to work with for me to be honest, but I believe it was something with pen sizes or with the change they made in how you set up your pen settings (opacity and thickness throught pressure and whatnot).

Thank you! Oh yeah, GIMP is bad at being user friendly, and learning to use it well isn't as fun as Photoshop.

The update was actually convenient for me, though, because I just learned Photoshop around that time, and GIMP 2.8's settings are a bit closer to Photoshop's than 2.6.

The fancy uniforms require careful attention to detail, so it'll take too long for me.
However, I will be drawing Rainbow Dash in "full battle rattle", next.

This is some really good work, I guess your guard training helped you improve a lot

Constructive criticism. Something about the ear and eyes feels a little weird to me. I think it is that the painting is getting into uncanny valley territory, and thus starts coming across as creepy. (Ill explain uncanny valley if you are unfamiliar with the concept)

The flag in the backgound is awesome, and the shading work is really good.

It's the piece I'm most proud of, so far.

Yeah, I tried to fix the ear a bit, but I couldn't do much there. I didn't actually know what to do for the eyes.

Thank you!

I think I have a solution for the eyes

The light reflection on the eyes is wrong. The shadow in Armor's fur indicates a light source coming from over the viewers right shoulder, but the light highlights in the eyes indicate a light source somewhere to the left.

Adjusting the highlights should fix the eyes issue a bit.
