Although making what people want to see will get you views more quickly, it is best to find something which you want to make which many people also like to see, so you don't have to be miserable drawing things you don't want to just to become popular.
You may also want to make your fan art appeal to a broad audience. I avoid things like Rule 34, shipping, and gore. Everyone loves some humor though.
Finally, try to be likeable by all, and by that, I mean try remain neutral, especially when it comes to things like politics. I usually don't say something unless someone asks me. People come for the art, not the politics.
